About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The University of Ghana Law Journal publishes original, high-quality scholarship on all areas of law and legal studies. The Journal welcomes contributions that advance legal knowledge, promote critical analysis, and engage with contemporary legal issues of national, regional, comparative, and international significance.

The Journal accepts the following categories of submissions:

  • Research articles
  • Case notes and case commentaries
  • Legislative and policy commentaries
  • Book reviews

The Journal's readership includes academics, researchers, judges, legal practitioners, policymakers, students, and others with an interest in legal scholarship. While the Journal has a particular interest in legal developments in Ghana and Africa, it welcomes contributions addressing legal issues from other jurisdictions where they offer comparative, theoretical, or practical insights of broader relevance.

History of the Journal

The University of Ghana Law Journal was established in 1964 by the University of Ghana School of Law. As Ghana's oldest and leading law journal, it has served for over six decades as a forum for the publication of high-quality legal scholarship on issues of national, regional, and international significance. The Journal continues to promote legal research, critical analysis, and scholarly engagement through the publication of peer-reviewed legal scholarship.

Open Access Policy

The University of Ghana Law Journal is not an open access journal. Access to published content is available in accordance with the Journal's subscription and distribution policies. The Editorial Board may, at its discretion, make selected articles or special issues freely available where it considers that wider public access would advance legal scholarship, public understanding, or informed debate on matters of significant legal or public interest.

Sponsorship / Funding Disclosure

The University of Ghana Law Journal is published and funded by the University of Ghana School of Law. The Journal does not receive external sponsorship or grant funding and does not carry commercial advertising
